Annie was born in Stockton, California, to Filipino parents, and she was raised Catholic. At age 17 she graduated high school and later moved to San Rafael, California, to attend Dominican University of California--a Catholic private college--where she studied print journalism. She transferred to San Francisco State University in her sophomore year. In October 2003 she broke into the adult entertainment industry by way of an amateur producer in San Francisco. She was just a month shy of turning 19 at the time. It wasn't until March of 2004 that she finally found her way to Los Angeles.
The vivacious Filipina met husband Jack Lawrence in June 2004, and he proposed to her in October of that year. They married three months later at the Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas for fans and the entire industry to witness. Since her entry into the porn world, Annie has landed her very own radio show on KSEX Radio and found her way into the boxing world, training with one of Laila Ali's (Muhammad Ali's daughter) former trainers. She has since won two boxing matches and is currently undefeated.
A self-proclaimed computer nerd, Annie manages her own website as well as 4 or 5 others. Intelligent, activist, liberal, and multi-talented can be described of Cruz as she aspires to be an entrepreneur.
Although because of her name and fairly dark complexion many think she is Hispanic, her background is Filipino, both of her parents having been born and raised there.
